There are many ways to do couples therapy, and several distinct models that have been used successfully. The presenter will describe his own approach to couples therapy, with emphasis on improving communication and conflict resolution, and therapeutic procedures will be demonstrated.
The content will include didactic and demonstration/discussion components, and Q&A will be encouraged.

  • Participants will be able to compare and contrast at least three models of couples therapy (similarities and differences)

  • Participants will be able to describe how to address three causes of defensiveness leading to escalation of arguments between couples.

  • Participants will be able to specify six rules of communication that can be taught to most couples to reduce conflict.
