From Guilt to Growth: The Practice of De-Parenting

This program is designed to provide an introduction to De-Parenting, and is appropriate for psychologists, social workers and mental health practitioners (LMHC’s, LMFT’s, and LCAT’s).
Successful completion of the course and post-training evaluation will provide CE credits for NBCC, NYSED, OASAS.
OVERVIEW:
This workshop explores how early caregiving dynamics inform identity, resilience, and relationship patterns in adulthood. Drawing on cognitive-behavioral, attachment-informed, and trauma-responsive modalities, Dr. Jaimee Arnoff has identified De-Parenting as a crucial step that precedes Re-parenting This original framework is the therapeutic and intrapersonal process of identifying, disentangling from, and releasing internalized family rules and obligations that undermine autonomy and self-worth. Participants will learn how to help their clients recognize inherited narratives and their impact on adult functioning and relationships, tolerate guilt, ambiguous loss, and grief that come with boundary-setting, as well as build capacity for healthier self-concepts and chosen relationships grounded in safety, reciprocity, and belonging.

Jaimee Arnoff, Ph.D., is a licensed clinical psychologist, speaker, and consultant, specializing in evidence-based treatment for adolescents, young adults, and high-risk clinical presentations. Based in Beacon, NY, she works extensively with clients navigating complex family dynamics and is dedicated to helping others recognize and address these dynamics as early and effectively as possible.
